Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
In 1676, Sir Isaac Newton wrote "If I have got seen additional it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" in a missive to Henry Martin Robert Robert Hooke a chap man of science and mathematician. I believe that this is a really astonishing statement in which he is attributing his successes not just to himself and his intellect, but to those around him who have got provided aid and support. It demoes a great grade of humility.
Humility is all about respecting others, for if you don't esteem others how can you anticipate them to esteem you? It is at the other end of the spectrum from fictional character traits such as as aggressiveness, arrogance, self-absorption. Many organisations covertly develop and advance these latter accomplishments believing that they will profit the business, but make they, is the organisation really "seeing" as far as it could be? If we environ ourselves with people who primarily make not stand for a menace to us, we make not develop and turn ourselves, because our thoughts are not challenged and honed. Choosing work co-workers who make not supply complemental and further endowments to our ain cut downs the hereafter development and current effectivity of the organization, and ultimately cut downs our ability to depute undertakings and activities. Standing on the shoulders of pigmies doesn't have got quite the same ring to it!
Humility is about being confident in your strengths and talents, but recognizing the restrictions of those abilities. Humility cut downs struggle and minimizes disputes, and constructs squads rather than cliques. Ultimately, it defines the wise leader rather than the self-focused empire builder.
